Okay. Here it is! This is the current record of the money we have spent on the march from the $3,000 from the OWS GA. I am currently in transit, but will photograph and post receipts asap.
*NOTE: very important: the amount we have spent and are returning to the OWS GA is still pending. There are a lot of marchers still in DC and we’re making sure they’re all taken care of transportation wise. Additionally, the media team may need more support with Hard Drives for editing the march footage.

My excuse for not moving my money is lame: I did not have any bank account for years and kept my money in a can-record keeping got confusing and basically I spent too much money. I opened BOA (again lame, because it was the closest bank within a mile) and ordered a bunch of checks. I was waiting to use these checks up; but I will be frugal no more and I promise you that I will be moving my money to a local bank or credit union as soon as the GA money is done with and back at OWS. If it makes anyone feel any better I typically never have more than $500 in my bank account (and that gets spent every month on rent).

$40 was spent on overnighting a check from the New York City General Assembly to the marchers who were in need of funding as well as postage for priority mailing a care package of thermals, emergency blankets, gloves, etc.
$115 was spent on another 500g HD for the feature documentary film Mic Check: Inside the nycmarch2dc/occupy the highway which was submitted to the Tribeca Film Festival on 1.6/12 and two dv tapes.
I am way over tired, but I will dig up these receipts soon in order to give the exact number. I will also try to finally photograph all of the receipts for all of the purchases made with OWS money.

BOA=white collar crime! You might think that some bozo at Bank of America might realize the bad publicity by stealing $35 from OWS! Bank of America possesses combined assets of $570 billion, as well as 4800 branches in 22 states. Think of the PR budget this gaffe will cost them. PLEASE OCCUPIERS! Move you money to a credit union!

Why in the world Occupy the Highway organizers would have occupied business with BOA from the outset of this march to D.C. when we have been expressing outrage throughout America for weeks about their practices is beyond me!!

Greetings, Thank you very much for your transparency in the handling of money. I feel grateful that you have done so much with the money that you received from OWS GA. I would enjoy seeing this much accountability from the US Congress. And I support keeping the remaining $ for another march on Washington in the spring of 2012. I believe we, the 99%, have a great opportunity to change the world as we know it in 2012.

Kelley…very impressive bookkeeping. Should be an accountant. I am impressed that those from other occupations had their transportation taken care of, too. Thought their transportation expenses would have been taken care of by their individual occupation groups. Might be something you want to consider for future marches as I have a feeling future marches (especially in the spring) will be a whole lot bigger. Great job.

Hi Barbara, Thanks for your support. Marchers from other occupations were asked to have their own transportation back, but a group of ows and other occupation marchers reached a consensus to give marchers from other occupations money if they didn’t have any (I mean we didn’t really want to start checking bank accounts…:). I am actually not the best person with numbers, but can step up when needed and this money was in my account after all and I took that very seriously. I would rather be a filmmaker and activist, but considering that times are tough maybe I should scour accountant openings…hopefully they would be okay with my BFA degree.
I think there will be many improvements made for future marches. Hopefully, I can just march and film the next time. I wouldn’t mind helping organize small things, but I don’t think I’m cut out for this amount of responsibility especially when I become the target for everything that didn’t go perfectly for everyone.

For first time organizers of this kind of march, I think you and Michael (and others) did an awesome job. You got the marchers to their destination when you said you would and you kept those of us following via website and Twitter informed and enthralled. Many nights I stayed up late waiting on those tweets that said you made it. Relief for a lot of us moms (mothers of marchers). Being a target for missteps comes with the territory for organizers. After action reports are good for this kind of thing. Don’t know if you were able to do that while in DC but certainly try to do it via email. Doesn’t need to be posted on this site. But do it soon while it is fresh in everyone’s mind. It will certainly help for future marches. Congrats to all of you. What special people you are!

Take care of the sick,if any,continue your Gandhian agitation. It will take time to topple the system that is there now, but topple it must finally. Young men and women have always been the hope for revival and regeneration all over the world. And so you are.

I enjoyed joining the march from New Brunswick to Trenton and from Baltimore to DC! Hopefully it won’t be just a once-in-a-lifetime experience, we gotta do it again in the spring or summer. Thanks for being transparent about our finances, unlike our government.

The donations are separate from the General Assembly money given to us by Occupy Wall Street. The people dealing with those figures haven’t reported back yet. I’ll check into this for you. Oh, and you definitely count-THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for this write-up Kelly. It’s good to see everyone made it home. I was also able to fund the trip myself. Sorry I was too sick to stick around longer in DC. Congrats to everyone who made the journey, I luv you guys!
