This march is being organized by a few us here at OWS. We are communicating with a lot of different working groups, but are recognizing ourselves as part of Mobile Occupation, along with the bus tour, a sub group of Movement Building. We are planning a walking march from Liberty Square in NYC to McPherson Square in Washington D.C. Our aim is to leave Liberty Square on November 9, 2011 and reach D.C. by November 23 to protest retaining the Bush tax cuts for the rich. On the 23rd the super committee will be meeting and this committee has the power to stop these cuts for the wealthy! There will be 2 trillion dollars in revenues saved if the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire. Some personal incomes of the Super Committee members fall in the 1% therefore it is easy for them to make decisions that affect the 99% as they themselves are not affected by those decisions. The Super Committee may simply extend their deadline (as is often the case), but either way we want to be there to fight for the 99% with Occupy DC!
A major draw for this march is for other people to get on board and start walking; especially outreach to rural communities. Whether for an hour, a day, or the full two weeks, we feel it’s imperative for OWS to respect the historical significance of long distance marches to support, promote, and encourage economic and human equality. We will march on average 20 miles a day from 9am to 5pm (banker hours) and hold nightly GA’s and/or discussions at 7pm in each town where we camp. We will be spending our two “days off” at Occupy Philly and Occupy Baltimore. We are also hoping that a few people from these occupations will join us in the march to the White House and Occupy DC.
Additionally, we hope to, as much as possible, coordinate with OWS and other occupations on planned actions, specifically on Nov 11 and Nov 17. We can do a lot from the road! Additionally, It would be beneficial if a medic(s)(update-we just got one!) and a drummer(s) could join us! Although our preparations will include a crash course with the medical team so we can be prepared for the unexpected as we will be marching unsponsored. Lastly, due to the nature of this march, it is important that each participant understand their personal health and physical condition and feel comfortable walking this distance without a support vehicle or excessive funding. We were given $3,000 by the GA for this march which will be spent mostly on gear, food, media, and as a fund for transportation back to OWS and/or an emergency situation. We do have a medic walking with us! If you would like to support in any way (we are still looking for a few camp spots) send us an email at: owsmarch2dc@yahoo.com
After Nov 23 people can do what ever they choose: stay in DC, return to OWS, or plan another march to further occupied cities. We should have some money to help with transportation costs back to where people came from if they so prefer. This march is to take OWS on the road using nothing more than our feet to spread the word along highways and rural communities. Some of us walking have been at OWS since the beginning and others have joined OWS in the last few weeks. We all have gathered a variety of skills and knowledge (facilitation, principles of solidarity consolidation, media, movement building, comfort, PR, Medical, and SIS for starters) that we can share with these other occupations if needed.
We are formally inviting all of you to join this march. If you cannot march please help to send us off this Wednesday at noon. We will be taking the New York Waterway/Hudson Ferry just south of Liberty Square.

Hey I’m thinking of joining you but I kinda wanna know a little more about what I’d be in for. Maybe you could make a recommended packing list or a list of tips for the road?
November 8th, 2011 at 2:53 pm
The images on the route are not showing up. You can link to a google map after you save it (which would be mucho helpful as things change).
Good luck in Rising Sun, MD– last bastion of the KKK (though its gotten better, its still not great).
I’d also be super wary of crossing the Conowingo dam– its literally a two lane road with no pedestrian crossing. You’d have to stop traffic for the entire time you’re crossing and its not a short bridge. I’d suggest taking the rt 40 bridge by Havre de Grace instead, but they’ve been doing construction for the past year and I don’t know the state of it currently. I’m texting some friends to find out now.

I’m so proud of you all! I will be there in spirit! Yelling Loud from Rural Arkansas!

Hi, I’d like to offer some support when you reach Trenton, NJ. We have supporters in Morrisville, PA (just across the river from Trenton) who would like to welcome you as you cross into Pennsylvania. Is there a way to communicate to alert us to your preparation to cross the bridge? Let me know. Cheers! Rusty

Are there any special events planned at McPherson Square in Washington when the March gets there? Are any of the political suits going to speak? Is it odd that very few politicians ever show up at OCCUPY sites?

Umm.. These directions are pretty useless. You’d have TONS more people with you if you’d get your images working or just use a simple Google Maps link..
